Ashleigh Hazel is a composer and producer, who lives on Wurundjeri land. Their practice encompasses experimental, popular, and classical music. As a composer they are fascinated by all facets of sound and audio culture. They have recently been working in other forms including movement, costuming and projection, to expand their live performances and scope of creative output. Hazel is interested in challenging traditional performance models and creating new ways of presenting music through installation and site-specific works. They currently work as a music producer for a variety of artists across Australia.

This is a work-in-progress showing of the material Ashleigh Hazel creates over a 4 day development in the Rehearsal Room at Belco Arts. Knots (working title) is being constructed to answer the question: What happens when a performance and a space are designed together as an integrated process? Hazel is developing Knots as a performance and installation that is responsive to audience interaction. This work explores how physical space primes people for certain kinds of experiences and interactions, as well as our relationships to space over time.
