Good Company

Ben Marston & Chris Thwaite at Herbert’s

Description

Ben Marston and Chris Thwaite filled Herbert’s in Evatt with evolving grooves on a perfect February evening, using elements from world music and jazz and borrowing remix ideas from electronic music.

With an engaged audience throughout the set and afterwards, Ben and Chris were free to improvise and chase their musical ideas and sensibilities.

“Overall there were many positives about the performance at Herbert’s however the standout was our ability to create an event that combined the musical experience with the audiences experience of each other.”

Good Company was a small grants program (part of artsACT’s Creative Recovery and Resilience Program) designed to turn businesses all over Canberra into places where art happens.

Artists were able to apply for a $5000 grant which supported them to produce an in-person arts event, situated in a Canberra venue or business between January – April 2022.

The goals of Good Company were to put money into the pockets of artists and arts workers, support arts events to happen in the ACT, to foster creative relationships between artists and businesses and to bring people and activity back into businesses that continue to be affected by COVID.

A total of 12 events were funded through the grant program with $60,000 delivered to the arts community.
