Good Company

The Canberra Cryptid Ball at Flazeda

Description

The costumes! The characters! The cocktails!

The Canberra Cryptid Society’s annual ball, was a glittering evening of immersive murder-mystery-style roleplay starring local supernatural beings.

Run by Cambridge Street Studio, a queer-run immersive experience studio that creates games, rituals, events and experiences that allow people to connect deeply to themselves and others.

“Attendees were transported to a magical location where velvet couches, feathered lamps and sequined curtains wrapped the walls, and bisexual lighting set the mood.”

Good Company was a small grants program (part of artsACT’s Creative Recovery and Resilience Program) designed to turn businesses all over Canberra into places where art happens.

Artists were able to apply for a $5000 grant which supported them to produce an in-person arts event, situated in a Canberra venue or business between January – April 2022.

The goals of Good Company were to put money into the pockets of artists and arts workers, support arts events to happen in the ACT, to foster creative relationships between artists and businesses and to bring people and activity back into businesses that continue to be affected by COVID.

A total of 12 events were funded through the grant program with $60,000 delivered to the arts community.
